Welcome to august–notebooks, challenges, & being more social

Well, it’s August 1st – happy birthday if it’s your birthday! Today, I’m retiring another notebook, which is both sad and exciting. Mostly exciting, though, as it means I get to crack open a brand new notebook and start fresh. Yippee!

But first, we must say adios to my very first logbook. The project had its ups and downs, but as far as diaries go, it was relatively successful. I abandoned it for a year (2012), but came back to it a few months ago and managed – more or less – to keep daily track of my adventures.

What excites you today?

Randomness on a Post-It: Day 5 – What excites you?

I ask myself this question – or try to ask myself this question – every day right as I wake up. Most days the answer is the same: coffee. Other times, the answer is different: more sleep. Other things excite me, too, though. Daily projects excite me. Writing something new excites me.

Other things that I find exciting:
  • Saying “hey” to my K (though it’s usually more of a grumpy grunt because I’m not a morning person – even when “morning” is mid-afternoon)
  • Hearing from people – new and old
  • The unknown possibilities of any given day
  • Finding out what the world was up to while I was asleep
  • New episodes of my favorite TV shows
  • Replaying my new favorite songs
  • Getting back into a good book

But mostly coffee. Speaking of which – it’s time for that second cup.

What excites you today?

Drink your coffee and then…

Randomness on a Post-It: Day 4

Today’s randomness on a post-it comes courtesy of my girlfriend.

Me: I don’t know what to write on my post-it…

Her: Drink your coffee and then you’ll figure it out.

Such sage advice. And it can be applied to pretty much any situation up to and including a zombie apocalypse – I assume there will be coffee available during a zombie apocalypse otherwise I wouldn’t want to survive anyway.

It’s Spirit Day today

fb_purple“Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. Getting involved is easy — participants are asked to simply “go purple” on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are.”

I guess my internal clock is set to Pacific Standard Time today…

I slept all day today. I mean all day today. It’s 8PM and I’m just now having my “morning” coffee. On the plus side, I’m drinking out of the awesome New Zealand Starbucks mug Julia gave us, and that makes things better. I guess I’ll be pulling an all-nighter and an all-dayer tomorrow to try and rectify this situation.

30 Days of Randomness on a Post-It: Day 3 – Groceries

K always puts me in charge of making the grocery lists because at the start of our relationship (some eight and a half years ago) I may have said something like, “I love making lists!” I’m pretty sure I was drunk at the time, or just confused as to what, exactly, a list was because I don’t, actually, like making lists and especially not grocery lists. (Side note: I do enjoy making packing lists for some reason, but that’s not the point).

The point is that every single time we’re to go grocery shopping, K is like, “Do you have a list?” I don’t. I don’t ever have a list. Ever. Not once in six years of living together have I ever had a list.  Still, she expects me to have one. So I usually run off and jot one down really fast.  And then when we get to the grocery store we end up buying 300 things that weren’t on the list anyway. And that’s married life at Casa Us.

This is today’s “let me jot one down really fast” grocery list.

Confession: I am procrastinating…

I’m even procrastinating on writing this blog post. I’ve sat here for 30 minutes doing everything but writing this post even though I originally meant to procrastinate by writing it. So I am procrastinating on procrastination at this point.

It’s one of those days. I have a headache the size of – Do headaches have sizes? I don’t think you can measure a headache in terms of size but if you could, then mine would be the size of … I don’t know. Something big.

I really want to get back in the habit of blogging every day so I’m going to start another one of those 30 day challenges. After pondering the challenge, I’ve decided that this challenge should include three of my favorite things:

  • Post-Its
  • My camera
  • Randomness

I’m calling this the 30 Days of Randomness on a Post-It Challenge.

Day 1: 6 Random Songs on a Post-It

I put iTunes on shuffle and here are the first six songs that came up –

There. Now I feel like I’ve accomplished something.

If you follow my Facebook page, then you’ll know I’ve been fairly active there lately. I can never decide where to post things (I’ve yet to settle into Google+, even though that’s where all the cool kids hang).  I’ve also been active on Tumblr. And in case anyone cares, TBSOL has a Tumblr as well, which is/will be more of a sprinkling of writing-related bits and may not be interesting to anyone. It’s for me, mostly. But it’s there, should anyone feel like dropping by.

I know some of you are waiting on my recaps –I’m sorry. I admit I haven’t felt very motivated lately.  Finishing this book is taking all my brain power. As soon as I get inspired, though, recaps will pop up again. Thanks so much for reading them!
