Tomorrow is a big deal for two reasons…

image

First and foremost, a special thank you to all the new people in my life who’ve found me via my Lesbicanarias article. ¡Saludos a todas!

So, tomorrow is a big deal for two reasons:

  • It’s May 1st which means I’ll be kicking off a brand new daily challenge.
  • It’s May 1st which means  K and I will be celebrating our eight year anniversary.

May 1st is a holiday in France and everything is closed/non-operational (the whole country is celebrating us getting together, apparently; so sweet of them) and so we usually go out to celebrate on May 2nd. Not really sure what we’ll do this year. Maybe get really drunk and run naked through the streets of Lyon/get arrested for public misconduct. Or did we do that last year? I can’t remember.

Unicorn Meat and Four Other Reasons Today Is a Good Day

Let’s get the crappy stuff out of the way: So I didn’t make it on the road trip after all because I got sick. My friends theorize it might be a zombie plague. So if zombies start popping up all over France/Western Europe, I do apologize. Lo siento. Totally my fault. I probably shouldn’t have bitten that zombie last week.

Before you start boarding up your houses/leaving for unaffected areas (Switzerland is probably safe), you should really finish reading this post. There’s no zombie survival tips at the end of it or anything but it would make me happy.

So, here’s five reasons today is a good day (for me)…

I’m making a list (I’m checking it twice)

So, I’m still in Lyon. I was supposed to not be in Lyon. I was supposed to either be in Yutz or on my way to Yutz, but instead I’m at my desk, sipping coffee and waiting on the laundry. Tomorrow morning, though? ROAD TRIP! That means that today I need a to do list.

As you can see, I’m all over it:

My To-Do List

My post yesterday about walking around in my underwear yielded a flurry of really amusing messages that sounded hilarious out of context. Thanks for the laughs, ladies. You sure know how to make a girl feel comfortable in her underwear.

Writing

Walking around in my underwear…

image

That post title is certain to attract the wrong sort of people. Probably. I don’t mean you, of course. I mean the other people.

I brought K  a cup of coffee in bed this morning and she was sitting up, re-reading Rayne (v1) and I glanced at the printed pages and I said, “Every time I read over what I’ve written, all I see are the things that are wrong with it.” She said, “I know. Stop reading.” I stopped reading.

Then I started thinking. I started thinking about how writing is basically like walking around in your underwear. At first you’re like, “Hey, this feels nice. It’s comfy. Maybe a little drafty. But nice.” Then you notice people are looking at you. At first you don’t really mind because you’re confident—they’re nice underwear—and people are too polite to say anything mean anyway. But then you stumble upon an ill-lit mirror and it hits you—YOU HAVE BEEN WALKING AROUND IN YOUR UNDERWEAR THE WHOLE TIME!

Adventures in coffee-shopping

photo (13)Yesterday the apartment was in a State of Emergency because we ran out of coffee. Inconceivable! So, out we went into the wilds of Lyon to rectify the situation. I had to have coffee. And it couldn’t be just any coffee, either, but my coffee, which is only sold by one grocery chain. The one nearest to our apartment doesn’t carry it (jerks). So we had to go elsewhere.

There was a little bit of getting lost along the way, mainly because they kept closing off roads, but we made it eventually. And the important thing? We found my coffee.

I proceeded to grab every single bag they had (see: our grocery cart, pictured right), which made people look at me funny.

The point is, I wish I were an elf…

So, my favorite part of last night’s Glee? Sue Sylvester’s League of Doom. I really want to be one of her villainous henchmen. That whole thing had me giggling cackling girlishly evilly into my coffee. Oh and Santana. Santana Lopez is amazing. I’ll say no more, though. I don’t want to spoil anyone. The lack of Brittana sucked monkeys.

Is there a formula for discovering your villain name? I know with a porn star it’s something like the name of your first pet + the name of the street you grew up in. So my porn star name is Teri Sequoia, which I think sounds more like a wrestler than a porn star. That reminds me: I really wanted to be a sumo wrestler when I grew up.

You know how adults sometimes say you can be anything you want to be? Well they lie. When you’re a 5’2” (157 cm)/100 lb. (45 kg) Puerto Rican, they won’t let you become a sumo wrestler. I had to settle for being a writer.

I guess it’s almost the same thing.

30 Day Challenge—Day 30: Looks like we made it…

image

So here we are on day 30 of my 30 day challenge. I can’t believe I made it. There were tough times along the way; many challenges to overcome. Some days, well … some days I couldn’t decide what color post-it to use. Or even what pen. Some days I wasn’t sure whether to drink coffee before or after my drawings. I had to dig down deep and make very difficult choices.

And yet through all the hard, impossible times, I kept on keeping on. I persevered. And now, here we are.

I guess you’re wondering if I feel any different. I do. I feel … well, I don’t want to sound over-the-top or anything … but I feel like my whole life has changed forever. Through this daily challenge, I’ve discovered the meaning of life, touched the face of God, experienced world peace, saved lives and still—somehow—managed to retain a grounded sense of reality. I don’t know how I did it.

“She was someone so undefined…”

P1060110

There, I used an actual music lyric. I’m not sure if that’s how the song goes because it’s what was playing right before I typed the title post and I’d never heard the song before. I should probably look that up.

“she was cruel and blue like ice
halfway between
heaven and her hands
was a place for you to land
what could you do
she was someone so undefined…”

The good news is I’m not going deaf.

Anyway, the song is “Like Ice” by Conjure One. Do you know of Conjure One? I love Conjure One. Here’s one of my favorite Conjure One songs…

I wanted to use a music lyric for the title of this post … I guess this could be a music lyric

It’s a beautiful day today, and I’m in a really good mood for some reason. I’m not sure why I’m in such a good mood, given that I’m coming down with a cold. Still. It’s sunny and beautiful and it’s hard to be in a bad mood when it’s sunny and beautiful.

I’m trying to plan out some trips. I told K yesterday that we must absolutely go to Spain this summer, which means we’re absolutely going to Spain this summer. Maybe.

You know where else I absolutely want to go? Disney. We must absolutely go to Disney. I’ve only been to Disneyland Paris once and it was for a work event of K’s which meant I was basically alone the whole time. Well, not alone. Mickey was with me. However, it was the middle of winter and it was freezing and everything was buried under a gloomy veil of ice. No me gusta.

So, Spain. Disney. Maybe back to the US? At some point? So I can have a Whopper Jr. I really want a Whopper Jr.

Taking over the world today, but first…

image… this post.

And maybe more coffee.

And maybe some Parks & Recreation.

And I have some stuff I need to write.

But after that … I’m totally taking over the world!

I’m not really sure what I’d like to do with the world once I have it, though. Honestly, I just want a Secret Lair. Of doom, of course. It has to be of doom or else it’s just a private room somewhere where a crazy loser hangs out all the time, mumbling things under her breath about world domination and the like. But if it’s a secret lair of doom then you know things are happening in there. Important things. Doomy things.

I’d probably make a terrible villain…
